Johann ‘Louis’ Ludwig Dreyer, 60

Johann “Louis” Ludwig Dreyer went to be with the Lord on Oct. 11, 2018. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Johann was born Oct. 30, 1957, in Vancouver, Canada, to Ludwig and Gisela Dreyer. At the age of 4, Johann and his family relocated to Hollywood, Calif., and later settled in Malibu, Calif., where he grew up. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1975.

Following graduation, Johann took an apprenticeship working on Mercedes Benz in Paderborn, Germany. After his return, Johann spent many years employed by his father at L&M Motors in Los Angeles. Throughout Johann’s life, he visited North Idaho often to visit family and relocated to Coeur d’Alene in his later years.

Johann loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed camping, boating and fishing on Coeur d’Alene Lake. Johann never married, but greatly enjoyed spending time with his many relatives, barbecuing and going on family outings. He particularly enjoyed spending time on his sister and brother in law’s farm in Worley, Idaho.

Johann attended the Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene and grew strength from being in the presence of the Lord. Though he had many trials in his life, the church provided much comfort and support for him.

Johann was employed by Northwest Swiss in Hayden, Idaho, from 2013 to 2018. He was a dedicated employee and greatly enjoyed his job. He was respected and liked by his many co-workers.

Johann gave to those in need willingly with a loving heart. He was a gentle, kind man that comforted and drew smiles wherever he went. Johann always chose to see the good in people and knew what it meant to love unconditionally. He was a quiet gentle soul who did not seek recognition for the sacrifices that he made in his life; including the daily care he provided for his elderly mother.

Johann was preceded in death by his mother, Gisela, on Aug. 29, 2018; his niece, Tawna Leih Bluth in 1999 and brother-in-law, Mark W. Middleton in 2012. He is survived by his father, Ludwig Dreyer (Ana) of Los Angeles; his sisters, Kerstin (Mark) Daly of Rathdrum, Idaho, Angela (David) Middleton of Worley, Idaho; Susan (Martin) Bluth of Mesa, Ariz.; and his brothers Peter Dreyer of Mesa and Christofer (Holly) Dreyer of Los Angeles. Johann is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

“We Speak your name with love and pride. We smile with tears we cannot hide. We thank you for the years we shared. The love you gave, the way you cared.”

Johann’s family is planning a celebration of life for next summer. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kootenai Humane Society, P.O. Box 1005, Hayden, ID 83835 or kootenaihumanesociety.com/donate/
