Zelda May (Powell) Sater

Zelda May (Powell) Sater passed away Oct. 23, 2018, at the Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Born to Luta and Parley Powell on Oct. 19, 1928, in Albion, Idaho, she was one of seven children. Zelda graduated from Albion High School in 1946. She married Edgar Sater on Nov. 29, 1946, in Missoula, Mont. Zelda and Ed moved to Kellogg, Idaho, where Ed worked at the Bunker Hill Mine and later built their forever home in Pinehurst, Idaho. In the late 1950s, Zelda went to work for the U.S. Forest Service at the Kingston Ranger Station and retired after 25 years of service.

Zelda enjoyed the great outdoors; camping and fishing in area lakes, rivers and streams. She and Ed taught their children and grandchildren to love nature, and traveled to locations throughout Idaho and Montana, always stopping at the Dairy Queen in little towns they passed through. She was known for the beautiful blankets she crocheted and often gave as gifts. Zelda loved going on trips with her sisters and playing cards at the beaches in Washington and Oregon.

Zelda is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Ed, who passed on May 1, 2007. She was also preceded in death by parents, Luta and Parley Powell, and sisters, Margaret and Bonita. She is survived by her sisters, Carol and Fontella and brothers, Devon and Kay; children, Sanda, Marsha and Allan; grandchildren, Brad, Sheryl, Rebekah, Matthew and Christy; and 10 great-grandchildren.

We are thankful to have celebrated Zelda’s 90th birthday this past week.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers that came to her home and in lieu of flowers, ask that donations in her honor be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
