Idaho Innovation Award

Entrepreneur celebrates 20 years

A Nu-Look Carpet Cleaning and Restoration is celebrating 20 years in business, serving North Idaho and eastern Washington.

Chad Gardner began A Nu-Look in 1998 with a single refurbished van and a truck-mounted cleaning machine, and was certified only in carpet and upholstery cleaning.

Today, Chad employs five Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certified technicians and two office and sales personnel. They use three truck-mounted cleaning units for carpet, upholstery, tile and grout cleaning, hardwood floor cleaning and polishing, leather furniture cleaning, exterior pressure washing, window cleaning, odor elimination services, epoxy floor stone and concrete floor cleaning.

They also now provide on-site emergency water, mold and fire restoration services with their mobile restoration unit and have expanded to cleaning Oriental and area rugs after moving to a bigger location to create the only in-plant carpet cleaning facility in the area.

“I believe the only reason we have made it ... and have continued to grow is because we have great employees, over 2,000 clients that have been very loyal over the years, and we have continued to offer services our clients want that not only doubles the life expectancy of their flooring investment but reduces their risks to asthma and allergies,” Gardner said.

Continuous Composites honored

Continuous Composites was awarded the Early-Stage Innovation of the Year award at the 13th annual Idaho Innovation Awards held in Boise on Oct. 17.

The program recognizes innovations, innovative professionals and companies throughout Idaho and is organized by Stoel Rives LLP, Trailhead and the Idaho Technology Council.

Continuous Composites owns the earliest granted patent on Continuous Fiber 3D Printing (CF3D™) and is revolutionizing the composites manufacturing industry by removing the needs for molds and autoclaves by printing with materials like carbon fiber, fiberglass and Kevlar. Their technology allows them to also embed functionality with copper wire for embedded circuits, fiber optics for embedding sensing and machine learning, and even Nichrome Wire for embedding heaters.

“We truly believe that our technology is bringing a great value to the community and job force here in Idaho,” said Chris Whalen, Composite’s director of marketing and design.
