ROADWAYS: Make them safer

| October 26, 2018 1:00 AM

I drive a 15-passenger bus all day around Coeur d’Alene and I have an observation I would like to make.

While merging onto I-90 east via 95, the lowering of the road makes it very difficult to see traffic flowing east on I-90 until I am almost on the freeway. If the hill between the on-ramp and the freeway were a bit smaller (lower), I would be able to see the traffic flow sooner and it would allow me to adjust my merge better, especially since vehicles are exiting at Fourth Street immediately as I am entering I-90.

I don’t remember having this problem prior to the construction. If anything can be done to fix this, it would be a big help.

Since I sit higher up than most cars, I assume this must be a problem for smaller vehicles too.

Also, I have to mention the unsafe pedestrian crosswalk between 95 and Medina on Ironwood Drive. Drivers heading east on Ironwood are going from two lanes to five lanes, and have the added distraction of people walking in front of them while they are trying to figure out which lane they need to get into as they come up to 95! I have witnessed folks crossing without the lights flashing because they did not realize they had to hit the button in the middle of their stroll across this very dangerous section of Ironwood Drive. Do yourself a favor and cross at the 95 intersection or the Medina intersection, or even use the tunnel. This crosswalk is extremely unsafe in my opinion and should NOT be there.
