COLLUM: For lieutenant governor

| October 26, 2018 1:00 AM

I’m writing in response to Russell McLains’s letter and share his support for Kristin Collum, who was endorsed by the Idaho Statesman for Lieutenant Governor.

I’ve attended a few events where Kristin Collum spoke, and was puzzled to be one of the very few supporters who took a yard sign or bumper sticker. The general feedback was that “the neighbors wouldn’t like it” or even “I don’t want my car to get keyed.”

It’s sad that Democrats don’t feel safe to freely express their political feelings, and that many feel the need to hide their political orientation rather than engage in meaningful debate with others.

For those who have a hard time breaking from party affiliation when voting, it’s worth noting that Kristin Collum — a former Vet who worked in the Pentagon for Colin Powell under Bush — was a Republican before the party moved away from her. She is fiscally conservative and believes strongly in self-reliance. She is a moderate, and a consensus builder, and wants to work with both parties for the benefit of all Idahoans.
