Cardinal men close with victory

COEUR d’ALENE — After watching the Community Colleges of Spokane strike in the first half, North Idaho College struck last, getting two goals by Creed McKinnon in the final 20 minutes for a 2-1 win in a Northwest Athletic Conference East Region match at Eisenwinter Field on Wednesday.

McKinnon tied the match in the 67th minute, scoring on an assist from Connor Wold to make it 1-1. McKinnon’s unassisted goal in the 82nd minute was the difference for NIC, which finished 5-10-1, 5-6-1 in conference.

Spokane (8-6-2, 7-3-2) will be the East’s second-seed to the NWAC Championships, and host Portland next Wednesday in the opening round at Spokane Falls Community College.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kayla Neumann had 12 kills and seven digs, Hailee Etter 11 kills and nine digs for the Cardinals in a 25-5, 25-14, 25-14 win over the Vikings in a Northwest Athletic Conference East Region match at Christianson Gym.

Chelsea Taylor had seven kills, Chloe Knudson 32 assists, Kynzey Mitzel 13 digs for NIC (21-12, 8-4 NWAC), which hosts Columbia Basin on Friday.

Big Bend is 7-23, 4-9.
