COEUR d’ALENE — The Hunter’s Moon will loom bright in the sky as the first Moonlit Monster Cruise begins boarding Wednesday night.

Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruises is reviving the Halloween-themed excursions for the second year. The cruises will include costume contests, an on-board haunted house, a no-host bar and other spooktacular fun for all ages.

“We wanted to provide the people around here an opportunity to do something on the lake for Halloween,” Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruises Capt. Carl Fus said Friday. “We wanted to keep it exciting and yet family-friendly.”

The cruises will creep along every 40 minutes. Fus said tickets aren’t for a specific time, so guests will board on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Enough boats are going throughout the night that nobody should have to wait in line for too long,” Fus said.

Those competing for top spot in the costume contest will have their photos taken with the zombie captain and photos will be uploaded to social media. Voting will take place online.

“Our crew is going to be in the Halloween spirit,” Fus said.

Last year’s Moonlit Monster Cruises were a smash, attracting 1,300 guests on the Saturday before Halloween.

Fus said they are once again expecting a solid turnout.

“Everybody really enjoyed it last year,” he said, adding that since we live right by the lake, we should expand opportunities to include more activities on the water.

The cruises go from 5 to 9 p.m. every day from Wednesday through Halloween (next Wednesday).

Advance tickets are $10 per person. Kids 3 and younger are free but still need a ticket. Boarding will be at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Boardwalk Marina.
