SPOILED: Sorry, but we are

| October 21, 2018 1:00 AM

As I read the opinions Oct. 17, two items struck me as how spoiled we are. First a cartoon of a boy telling his sister, who was online with Amazon, that dad said when he was a kid, they had to drive to the store to buy things. Second was an opinion/complaint of having to walk to the end of the driveway to get the paper in snow and ice rather than have it placed on the doorstep. I respect her at 70 having fear of falling.

Now, when I express the following you may think I’m weird, that’s fine. It might have concerned me when I was a youth but at 72, I just smile and I really don’t care.

I hate being cold, but I don’t put a coat on in bitter cold when I walk out to get the paper because I appreciate so much more the warmth in our home when I come back in. I don’t dodge the sprinklers in the summer as I take walks … it’s just water and I thank God I can feel it. I’ve had back surgery, a triple bypass, knee surgery and could have applied for a handicap parking tag but God willing I will never, because I always see someone who has it worse. Finally; those who feel they need the paper on the doorstep, I respect your concerns. But all of you who have the ability to do for yourself … do it while you can … or one day you will wish you could.
