Cardinal women clinch NWAC playoff berth

COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College, Walla Walla and the Community Colleges of Spokane are all in the Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs.

As far as who is going where, that is still to be determined.

Kaysha Bailey had six saves for NIC in a scoreless draw with Walla Walla on Saturday at Eisenwinter Field.

“We struggled to get any shots on goal today,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said. “But stellar play by our backs: Tiana Cydell, Cid Bauwens, Emmaleah Allen, Ashley Camacho, Sofia Schnepf, and our keeper, Kaysha Bailey, kept Walla Walla from scoring as well.”

NIC (8-4-5, 8-2-3 NWAC, 27 points) and Walla Walla (11-4-2, 8-3-2, 26 points) trail Spokane (11-3-4, 9-1-3, 30 points) with one match remaining.

NIC hosts Spokane on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The teams played to a scoreless draw in the previous matchup on Sept. 26 at Spokane Falls Community College.

Walla Walla hosts Columbia Basin to conclude the regular season on Wednesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The visiting Warriors clinched the Northwest Athletic Conference East Region title, beating the Cardinals in an East Region match at Eisenwinter Field.

NIC (4-10-1, 4-6-1 NWAC) concludes the season on Wednesday, hosting the Community Colleges of Spokane at Eisenwinter Field starting at 3:15 p.m.

Miguel Rodriguez scored two second-half goals for Walla Walla (10-2-3, 8-1-2, 27 points). Wenatchee Valley is second with 22 points, followed by Columbia Basin with 21.
