Ruben Richard Rohrbach, 94

Ruben Richard Rohrbach 94, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away peacefully at Life Care Center in Post Falls, on Oct. 5, 2018. Ruben was born on the Rohrbach farm in Roscoe, S.D. on Dec. 2, 1923, to John and Katie (Huft) Rohrbach. Ruben’s father was born in Russia and came to the United States when he was 12 years old and ended up in Rosco. He married Katie Huft and they had five children

Ruben was the first child. His brothers, Erhart and Raymond, preceded him in death, as did two wives and six of his children. He lived in the Roscoe area, where he worked on the family farm until 1947 when he moved to Spokane, Wash. From 1953 to 1956 he lived in the Coeur d’Alene and Hayden, Idaho, areas. He moved to Post Falls, Idaho, after remarrying in 1956, and then moved in 1960 to Hayden. In July of 2017, he moved to Life Care Center in Post Falls.

Ruben spent many years near Coeur d’Alene at a sawmill, pulling on the green chain. He worked there 23 years and then started a business rotavating gardens, yard leveling, dump truck services, weed control plow and disc, snow removal, and then in his 80s he cut and baled hay. He did have a younger partner with that endeavor. After selling out he moved to Heatherstone Senior Community in Hayden. He said his hobby was cooking and he enjoyed gardening too.

He is survived by one brother, Milbert of Coeur d’Alene and one sister, Mavis Putzier of Hot Springs, S.D. Ruben is also survived by his son, John of Greenacres, Wash.; adopted daughter, Diane Allen and stepson, Pat Lucey of Seattle, Wash.; 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Kingdom Hall, 8500 N. Ramsey Road, Hayden, with a potluck reception at the Elks Lodge, 1170 W. Prairie Ave., following the service. Bell Tower Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
