Lake City falls in finale

| October 20, 2018 1:00 AM

LEWISTON — In the first half, as Lake City coach Brian Fulp described, the Timberwolves couldn’t tackle or block the Lewiston Bengals in a 41-7 loss at Bengal Field on Friday night in the 5A Inland Empire League finale for both.

Trailing 34-0 at halftime, Lake City played Lewiston even in the second half, getting a touchdown from Zane Lettau on a 4-yard run with two minutes remaining.

“Offensively, they scored mulitiple ways,” Fulp said. “We had a tough time tackling defensively in the first half. We couldn’t block anybody either, and if you can’t tackle or block, it’s going to be pretty tough.”

Lake City finishes the season 3-6, 0-3 in league play.

“All things considered, the thing I’m most proud of is that they never quit,” Fulp said. “We played a lot better in the second half. Those seniors, it might be the last time a lot of them are walking off the field, but they can hold their heads high. They competed all year.”

Lewiston (6-3, 1-2) earned an at-large berth to the state 5A playoffs, which begin next week.
