Viking girls edge Post Falls for 5A Region 1 title

Coeur d’Alene edged Post Falls by two points, 35-37, for the girls 5A Region 1 cross country title on Thursday at the Lewiston Orchards.

Sophomore Lauren Forster won the girls race for Coeur d’Alene, finishing in 17 minutes, 55.50 seconds. Both Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls advanced to state on Oct. 27 back at Lewiston Orchards.

Angelyca Chapman of Lake City also qualified for state after finishing fifth.

Carter Gordon was third for Lake City, which finished runner-up to Lewiston in the boys meet to advance to state.

Chad Humphreys and Braden Dance of Coeur d’Alene also advanced individually.

Sandpoint swept the boys and girls Region 1 titles, with Moscow advancing to state as well after finishing runner-up in both boys and girls meets.

Sydnee Hostetler of Lakeland finished eighth in the girls race to advance to state.

Logan Hunt of Timberlake won the boys District 1 race in 17 minutes, 15 seconds, leading the Tigers to threir ninth straight district title at Bonners Ferry High.

The top three boys teams and two girls teams advanced to the state 3A meet on Oct. 27 at Lewiston Orchards.

Megan Hatrock was third for Timberlake, which claimed a 10th straight district girls title.

Abigail Gorton of Bonners Ferry won the girls race in 20:07.
