Carl Edward Scott

April 28, 1932 – Oct. 15, 2018

Carl was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on April 28, 1932, to George and Marguerite Scott. He grew up in Los Angeles, joined the DeMolay in his teens, played football for Fremont High School and graduated from Fremont High School. Carl went to work in a cabinet shop after high school and worked there for several years.

He had met Lois Ostronik in the 9th grade and married her four years later on June 30, 1951, after graduating from high school. They lived in Alhambra, Calif., where Carl joined the San Gabriel Fire Department in 1955. They had two boys, Raymond and Kenneth, before moving to Arcadia, Calif., in 1958, where they had two girls, Marsha and Linda. Carl joined the Arcadia Masonic Lodge #547 and served as master in 1982. Carl was also associate guardian of Job’s Daughters #121 from 1973 to 1992.

Carl and Lois and their children had a great home life. Carl was a firefighter and on his days off was a contractor, brick mason and master carpenter. He built multiple pieces of beautiful furniture, including a beautiful oak cradle for his great-granddaughters.

Carl and Lois moved to Bishop, Calif., after he retired from the fire department in 1992. He joined the Winnedumah Lodge of Bishop #287 in 1997. Carl was worshipful master of that lodge four times. He received the Hiram Award, the highest honor in the Masonic Lodge, for services in 1999. Carl was in the Kerak Shrine of Reno, Nev., and the Scottish Rite Club of Bishop. They moved to Big Pine, Calif., in 2006 and in November 2013, they moved to Hayden, Idaho, to be near their children.

Carl is survived by his wife, Lois Scott of Hayden; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Janet Scott of Post Falls, Idaho; son, Kenneth Scott of Spokane, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Scott Porter of Spirit Lake, Idaho; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Darren Reynolds of Rio Rancho, N.M.; four granddaughters, Melissa (Rob) Scott-Lewis of Newman Lake, Wash.; Becky (Tony) Jones of Rathdrum, Idaho; Amy (Chris) Reno of Newport; Candice (Dan) Berlin of Post Falls; one grandson, Stephen Scott of Post Falls; five great-granddaughters, Tiffanie and Kaitlyn Berlin, Elizabeth Porter, Kaydence Jones and Calleigh Reno; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, George and Marguerite Scott and his brother, Alfred “Bud” Scott. Carl suffered from advanced Parkinson’s disease, but succumbed to the effects of a major stroke.

His wishes were to not have services. Instead, memorial donations in Carl’s name can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
