Cardinals romp past Wenatchee Valley

COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College remained fourth in the Northwest Athletic Conference’s East Region with a 25-8, 25-12, 25-11 romp of the Wenatchee Valley Knights at Christianson Gym on Wednesday.

Kayla Neumann had 12 kills, 10 digs and three aces, Hailee Etter 10 kills and eight digs for NIC (20-11, 7-3 NWAC), which travels to Blue Mountain of Pendleton, Ore., on Friday. Blue Mountain (7-2) leads NIC by a half-game for third in the East.

Chloe Knudson had 29 assists and seven digs and Hannah McPhethridge five kills and three aces for NIC.

Wenatchee Valley is 10-20, 1-10.

PASCO, Wash. — The Cardinals slipped one point behind the Community Colleges of Spokane in the East Region standings with two matches remaining following a loss to the Hawks in Northwest Athletic Conference play.

“Columbia Basin came to play today,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said. “They were well organzied defensively and we struggled against their defense.”

NIC (8-4-4, 8-2-2 NWAC, 26 points) trails Spokane (10-3-4, 8-1-3, 27 points) with two matches remaining. NIC will host Spokane next Wednesday at noon in the regular season finale for both at Eisenwinter Field.

Columbia Basin (8-2-4, 6-2-4, 22 points) trails Walla Walla by three points for the third and final playoff spot in the East.

PASCO, Wash. — The Cardinals were eliminated from postseason contention following a loss to the Hawks of Pasco in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.

NIC (4-9-1, 4-5-1 NWAC, 13 points) trails Spokane (7-5-2, 6-2-2, 20 points) by seven points for the third and final playoff spot in the region with two matches remaining.

The Cardinals host Walla Walla on Saturday at Eisenwinter Field at 2:15 p.m., then host the Community Colleges of Spokane to conclude the regular season next Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

Columbia Basin is 7-1-4, 6-1-3 and is second in the East Region.
