Lakeland upset at regionals

RATHDRUM — The Lakeland Hawks swept the Moscow Bears in both 4A Inland Empire League meetings, but the postseason turned out to be a different animal, as No. 2 seed Lakeland lost to No. 3 Moscow 25-21, 19-25, 25-18, 15-16 in the loser-out first round of the 4A Region 1 tournament Tuesday night at Hawk Court.

Daphne Carroll had 11 kills, Abbey Neff 21 assists for Lakeland, which finished 19-14. Katy Ryan had five kills and three blocks, Summer Powell 12 digs and three aces, Sarah Pope four blocks, Jenny Wirtz three blocks, Olivia Cooper five digs.

Jailyn Knott had six kills and 12 digs for Moscow, which travels to No. 1 Sandpoint on Thursday for the regional title.

Cd’A Charter

SPIRIT LAKE — McKeeley Tonkin had 26 assists, five kills, nine digs and two aces for the top-seeded Tigers in a 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-12 win over the fifth-seeded Panthers in a semifinal game in the 3A District 1 tournament match at Timberlake High.

Ashlyn Mallet had 13 kills, Kenzie Dean 19 digs and one ace, Brooke Jessen eight kills, two blocks, two digs and one ace and Taylor Suko five kills and four aces for Timberlake (23-9), which faces third-seeded Kellogg in the championship match on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Timberlake.

Coeur d’Alene Charter (9-10) will face Priest River in a loser-out match Thursday at 5:30.

Earlier, Kellogg beat No. 2 seed Priest River 25-22, 25-21, 13-25, 25-23.

Grangeville

GENESEE — Kaci Haeg had 11 kills and one block and Dakotah Wilks had 30 assists to lead the top-seeded Lumberjacks past the third-seeded Bulldogs 25-15, 25-11, 25-11 in a 2A District 1-2 tournament match at Genesee High.

Elizabeth Ragan had 10 kills and 11 digs, Jayden Martin 11 digs and Madison Cordell two aces and one block for St. Maries (15-14), which faces No. 2 seed Orofino today at 5 p.m. in Genesee followed by the championship match at 6:30. If the team’s split tonight, they will meet again on Thursday at 5 p.m. to determine the lone berth to state.

Orofino beat Grangeville in Tuesday’s opening match.

Kootenai

HARRISON FLATS — The fifth-seeded Tigers advanced to the 1A District 1 Division II tournament with a win over the fourth-seeded Warriors.

Mullan will face No. 1 seed Clark Fork in the opening round on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by No. 2 Genesis Prep vs. No. 3 Lakeside at 11:30. The two winners will play at 1 p.m., in the championship match.
