Rutherford, a 5-foot-9, 140-pound sophomore wide receiver, caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Derek Pearse on the first possession of overtime as the Trojans beat Lewiston 34-28 last Friday in a 5A Inland Empire League football game at Trojan Stadium. Rutheford also scored on a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter. “We knew he was going to play more and more, but we certainly didn’t know he was going to be so instrumental down there in overtime to win it,” Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett said. “He’s smart, he’s talented — just like several other sophomores.”
