Lorraine McBryde, 68

Lorraine Sharlene McBryde was born on April 28, 1950, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Benny and Marie Colucci. She became a member of the Roman Catholic Church when she was baptized at St. John Chrysostom Church in Inglewood, Calif. She was strong in her faith all her life.

Lorraine graduated from St. John Chrysostom School in 1964. She was very proud to be able to attend St. Bernard High School in Playa del Rey, Calif., and she graduated from there in 1968. While a freshman in high school, her father passed away. The support of everyone at her school helped her to get through this tough time.

After graduating high school she went to work for Pacific Telephone as a draftsman. It was at work where she met her husband, Delbert McBryde. They were married on Oct. 10, 1970. On Oct. 4, 1971, she gave birth to her daughter, Lisa.

She began her love of baking and cake decorating during this time. She was able to save money to buy a house. In 1974, Del, Lorraine, her mother Marie, and Lisa moved to Garden Grove, Calif., where they lived for 20 years.

During these years, Lorraine worked at Garden Grove School District and Bank of America. Her daughter attended St. Columban School, where Lorraine was a regular volunteer. She was also a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s brownie and junior troops.

In 1994, her husband, Del, retired from the phone company. The family moved to Rathdrum, Idaho. Lorraine worked at the Post Falls Outlet Mall and attended North Idaho College, where she earned her culinary certification.

On June 2, 1997, her husband, Del, died. She was able to get through another difficult time with the help of her fellow students and wonderful neighbors. In 1998, her daughter moved back to California. In 2001, her mother died and once again her fantastic neighbors helped her through these tough times. Her neighbors became her family, and helped her when she started down the road of illness. She loved to bake and share her peanut brittle and cookies. Her love of baking never stopped.

All of her life she continued to be strong in her faith. She shared her faith with everyone she knew. She prayed for people and her prayers were powerful. Anytime someone was having a hard time, they always turned to Lorraine for her prayers.

She was preceded in death by her father, Benny Colucci; mother, Marie Colucci; husband, Del McBryde; brothers, Rodger Leduc and Marcel Leduc; and sister, Linda Murphy.
