POST FALLS — Before the jack-o-lanterns are lit for All Hallows' Eve, the trunks at the I-90 Autoplex will be stuffed with treats.
The fourth annual I-90 Autoplex Trunk-n-Treat will spread joy — and lots of candy — throughout car trunks at Knudtsen, Findlay Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Post Falls, Findlay Nissan and Midway Hyundai on Saturday, Oct. 27.
"The neighbors at Findlay, they've been doing it for a few years and they looked like they were having way too much fun without us," said human resources generalist Lauren Benedict of Knudtsen Chevrolet.
This will be Knudtsen's second year participating in the seasonal celebration, which has been dubbed the largest trunk-n-treat event in the Inland Northwest.
"We try to have 100 trunks," Benedict said, "which is a lot of candy."
The trunks open at 5:30 p.m. Festivities will include games, pumpkin decorating, a cupcake walk, free hot cocoa, costume contests and free hay rides as well as access to the treat-filled trunks.
"Some of our employees were passing candy out last year and they had a blast with it," Benedict said. "They dressed up and got to engage with the kids, and the parents seemed to have fun, too."
The recommended age categories are 5 and younger and 6 to 12. Kids are encouraged to dress up in family-friendly costumes.
The event is free with one can of food per person that will be donated to the Post Falls Food Bank. Last year's event welcomed about 4,500 people who donated 2,376 pounds of food.
"It is a way for people to get out and have a fun, safe Halloween-type of evening," Benedict said. "It's great that next week to be able to deliver lots of food."
The trunks will close at 8 p.m. Attendees are asked to preregister at https://postfalls.ticketleap.com/trunk-n-treat-2018/.
The I-90 Autoplex is located at 550 N. Alberta St., Post Falls.
