LEWISTON — In its biggest match of the season, Coeur d’Alene did just enough to keep the season going a few more days.

Chris Swider had a goal and an assist for the Vikings in a 2-0 win over the Skyview Hawks of Nampa in a state 5A tournament play-in match on Saturday at Walker Field.

“We really played a good first half and locked things down,” first-year Coeur d’Alene coach and former Viking player Braden Ridgewell said. “Everything just started to go the way we wanted in the first half. Coming off that loss (to Lake City in the Region 1 title match on Wednesday), the guys realized how crucial the game was. They gave it their all, and it showed on the field.”

Coeur d’Alene (10-4) opens at state against Rocky Mountain (13-2-1) of Meridian on Thursday at 10 a.m. PDT at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex. Coeur d’Alene went 0-2 at state in 2017 after finishing runner-up in 2016.

Skyview, the fifth-place finisher from the District 3 tournament, finishes 6-10-4.
