AMENDMENT: Step up, senator

| October 10, 2018 1:00 AM

Sen. Jim Risch laments how other senators “look at you like you have three heads” when proposing controlling federal spending. Is that any surprise when corporations can donate unlimited money to influence what these senators support?

It’s time we force these senators to listen to their constituents instead of corporate donors. If candidates rely on the donations of individual citizens for funding, rather than corporations and their special interests, maybe they’ll start paying attention to what the individual citizens are saying!

More than 75 percent of Americans support amending the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Citizens United decision, yet are being ignored by their senators. The We the People Amendment (H.J.R. 48 in the House) removes big money from politics, which will allow the voices of ordinary citizens to be heard, rather than drowned out by sound of corporate donations rushing in.

If Jim Risch wants more senators who will listen to the will of the people, he should take the lead and support the We the People Amendment in the Senate. Let’s get big money out of politics so the will of the people can be heard!

Come on Jim, help us Drain The Swamp of these corporate cronies and get some level-headed representation in this country!
