Coeur d'Alene's Forster second in state course preview

LEWISTON — With the state meet approaching in three weeks, area schools ventured south to the Lewiston Orchards — the site of this year’s meet in all five classifications on Oct. 27 — for the Inland Empire Challenge on Saturday.

Coeur d’Alene’s Lauren Forster finished second in the girls race in 17 minutes, 58 seconds, leading the Vikings to a third-place finish.

Mountain View of Meridian, led by girls champion Lexy Halladay in 17:25, won the girls team title with 29 points, followed by Idaho Falls.

Sandpoint’s Jett Lucas was the top local boys finisher, coming in 11th at 16:18. Sandpoint was fourth with 87 points. Idaho Falls, led by winner Zach Erickson in 15:08, won the boys meet with 42 points.

Area schools will get another look at the course on Oct. 18 when 5A, 4A, 2A and 1A schools compete in state-qualifying meets at Lewiston Orchards.

shine for Vikings

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene’s Caleb Markowski won both the 50- freestyle and 100-yard butterfly in individual races, as well as the medley relay and freestyle relay late Friday at the Kroc Center.

Coeur d’Alene downed Post Falls, Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint in dual meets in both boys and girls events.

Rylie Rasmussen won the 50 freestyle, as well as swam winning relays in the 400 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
