Trojan volleyball sweeps Lewis and Clark

POST FALLS — Maya Blake and Tessa Sarff had nine kills each to power the Post Falls Trojans past the Lewis and Clark Tigers of Spokane 25-22, 25-12, 25-23 in a nonleague match at The Arena on Wednesday.

“The whole night, we played really up tempo and controlled the match the entire night,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “We got down in the third set, but were able to fight them off. We served the ball really well tonight. It was a good win for us, especially headed into Lewiston next week.”

Courtney Finney had 17 assists and three aces, Kayla Mayo 16 assists, Megan Wood three aces and three blocks and Ali Carpenter 14 digs for Post Falls (14-12), which concludes 5A Inland Empire League play at Lewiston on Tuesday.

SANDPOINT — The Trojans fell to the Bulldogs in their regular season finale at Memorial Field.

Zander Moore and Chris Koch scored first half goals for Sandpoint (7-6), which hosts Moscow on Saturday at Pine Street Field.

Post Falls (4-10) opens the 5A Region 1 tournament at top-seeded Lake City on Saturday at 2 p.m.

First half — 1, Spt, Zander Moore (Chris Koch), 28:00. 2, Spt, Logan Buckout (Koch), 35:00. Second half — none.

SPIRIT LAKE — Kobe Harris scored in the 38th minute, lifting the Tigers past the Lumberjacks in an Intermountain League match.

“The boys were putting together some good possession play,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “We’ve been working at this all season, and it just showed up tonight.”

Sheldon Kistler had six saves for Timberlake (9-5, 7-3 IML), which travels to Lakeland today at 4 p.m. Timberlake won a coin toss with St. Maries and will be the second seed to the 3A District 1-2 tournament starting Tuesday at Sunrise Rotary Field in Rathdrum.

St. Maries is (7-6-1, 7-3).

POST FALLS — The Trojans fell to the Bulldogs in their regular season finale under the lights at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.

“The girls put together a really strong performance against a really tough Sandpoint squad,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “I want to commend our seniors — team captain Lo Hoffeld, captain Bethany Gilmor, Alexis Black, Alyssa Smith, Carly Schacher in goal, and Jazzy Kernodle. I’ve really enjoyed working with these ladies in the last few years and want to thank them for all their hard work.”

Post Falls (3-10-1) opens the 5A Region 1 tournament at Lake City on Saturday at noon.

Sandpoint (9-3-1) travels to Moscow today.

SPIRIT LAKE — Georgie Simpson, Hannah Larson and McKenzie Wells scored goals for the Tigers in an Intermountain League win over the Lumberjacks at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.

“It was senior night, so there was some emotions at the start of the match,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “We’ve seemed to struggle with St. Maries, and it’s never a match we want to take lightly. The girls started to move the ball around and we were able to get some good shots on goal.”

Timberlake (9-3-1, 9-2-1 IML) will be the second seed to the 3A District 1 tournament starting Monday at Sunrise Rotary Field in Rathdrum. The Tigers visit Lakeland today at 4 p.m.

Aubree Osier scored in the 38th minute for St. Maries (7-4-2, 6-4-2), which is off until districts, where the Lumberjacks will be the third seed.

“It was a tight game,” first-year St. Maries coach Kenny Osier said. “We allowed two goals that just missed our keeper that got us tonight.
