Larry Dennis Ruff, 70

Larry Dennis Ruff, 70, went to rest in the arms of our Lord on July 9, 2018, at the family home in Deming, N.M., with his loving wife, Cynthia, by his side.

Larry was born on Dec. 27, 1947, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Alexander and Erna (Uhl) Ruff, long-time residents of Dalton Gardens, Idaho. He attended Dalton Elementary and Coeur d’Alene Junior High School, graduating from Coeur d’Alene Senior High School in 1966. He was a standout pitcher for the baseball team during his high school years. After graduation, Larry attended North Idaho College before discovering his true calling and career as an expert woodworker and carpenter.

After leaving Coeur d’Alene, he lived on Camano Island, Wash., in Las Vegas, Nev., in and around Phoenix, Ariz., and finally settled in Deming, N.M. Larry relished the good things in life including art, music, travel, photography, fishing, hunting, bowling and most of all, golf. He loved riding his Harley and was the founder of the “Sin City Xriders” motorcycle club out of Las Vegas.

Larry was a good friend to many throughout his life. His spirit and self-reliance will be missed by all.

Larry is survived by his wife, Cynthia Louise Ruff of Deming; daughter, Shannon (John) Forbes and her mother, Judy McHenry Bird and grandchildren, Joshua and Alysha Forbes of Coeur d’Alene; daughter, Breanne Anna Maria Ruff of Coeur d’Alene; son, Travis Merle (Kariann) Ruff of Clarkston, Wash., and their mother, Shelley Stoddard Ruff of Coeur d’Alene and granddaughters, Adelynn Mae and Elena Noel Ruff of Clarkston; brother, Dean (Olive) Ruff of Yakima, Wash., and niece, Kari Ruff of Calif.; along with several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry also leaves behind step-sons, Christian Knudsen III and Peter Roald Knudsen, step-daughter, Lauren Ashley Knudsen and step-daughter-in-law, Audrey Knudsen and step-grandsons Christian Knudsen IV, Wyatt Knudsen, Eric Knudsen, Grayson Knudsen and Sean Summers. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Delores Ruff Totten and Delaine Ruff Preston.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with Pastor Bill Hemenway officiating.

Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Funeral Home in Deming, N.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Kootenai Humane Society, P.O. Box 1005, Hayden ID, 83835.
