Coeur d'Alene boys roll past Sandpoint

SANDPOINT — Drake Prohaska, Dylan Bengtson and Gavin McLuskie had a goal and an assist each, leading the Coeur d’Alene Vikings past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 5-0 in nonleague play Tuesday at Pine Street Field.

“We’re playing the kind of style where everyone is getting touches and looks at the goal,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “A big focus tonight was getting the ball in the net. With five goals on 10 shots, we were successful, especially early on in the match.”

Coeur d’Alene (9-3) hosts Lewiston to open the 5A Region 1 tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Sandpoint is 5-5.

MOSCOW — The visiting Hawks dropped to 0-12-1, 0-4 4A Inland Empire League with the loss to the Bears.

No other information was available.

Moscow (7-6, 2-1) will wrap up its regular season at Sandpoint at noon Saturday. The Bears can claim the league title with a win by two goals or more; the Bulldogs (5-5, 3-0) can snatch the crown with a win of any variety.

Lakeland wraps up the regular season Thursday at home vs. Timberlake.

COEUR d’ALENE — Riley Walkington tallied the eventual game-winner on the counter-attack, scoring from the top and left of the box with a shot to the far post, to edge the Vikings in nonleague play on senior night under the lights at the Coeur d’Alene High football field.

“I think it was a really good match; hat’s off to Sandpoint,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “Our girls came out and played really well. We had a lot of opportunities, just couldn’t put them in the net.”

Sandpoint improved to 8-3-1.

Zoe Cox scored the game-tying goal in the 68th minute for Coeur d’Alene (7-6-1), which plays host to Lewiston on Saturday at noon in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.
