CANS: Lesson in leasing

| October 3, 2018 1:00 AM

The position of Coeur d’Alene Garbage regarding cleaning cans is ludicrous. I can lease a car and have it serviced or washed anywhere. Why not the same for a leased trash can?

I’ve seen the way Eco-Wash cleans cans: no wastewater on the street, no bits of trash left behind: an environmentally friendly approach.

The alternate is to wash the cans myself in the street and let the wastewater run down the gutter.

CDA Garbage’s argument sounds like it was drafted by a first-year law student. If my trash can cannot be serviced to clean it and it’s environmentally unsound to do so in the street, CDAG should be solely responsible for any disease caused by their dirty property so long as it’s used for its intended purpose … you know, to hold trash.

The city has a vital interest in allowing a third party to care for trash cans without the mindless interference of CDA Garbage.

Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate the contract with CDA Garbage.
