Doreen Ahlers Wemhoff Kurdy Middleton, 92

Doreen Mae Ahlers was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Greencreek, Idaho, to Adolph and Lena Ahlers. She passed away Sept. 5, 2018, of natural causes in Indio, Calif.

Doreen went to school in Cottonwood, Idaho, and graduated from St. Gertrude’s Academy in 1944. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for two years, assisting in the nursing department.

She married Frank Wemhoff on Jan. 16, 1945, in Cottonwood. Frank was killed suddenly in a truck accident in September of 1948. They had two children, Thomas John and Linda Marie. Doreen moved in with her brother, Herbert, and his family in a basement apartment in his home in Cottonwood.

She met Kelly Kurdy and they were married on June 23, 1951. He was the son of Dora and Joseph Kurdy. Kelly adopted Tom and Linda. They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1952. Kelly was an investment counselor for I.D.S, Services. Kelly and Doreen had two children, Pamela Kay and Kelly Joseph. They had many friends and loved living in such a beautiful area. Kelly passed away Sept. 16, 1992.

Doreen enjoyed playing bridge and golfing. She was a fantastic cook and loved to entertain. She was a charter member of the Auxiliary at Kootenai Memorial Hospital. Doreen was a volunteer there from 1967 until 2009.

She became acquainted with Norm Middleton while working at Kootenai Hospital. He was a volunteer for the Cancer Center. They married on Oct. 27, 1997, at St. Pius X Church in Coeur d’Alene. Norm had two children, Judy Lyle and Lon Middleton, both of whom reside in Coeur d’Alene. Norm passed away on March 31, 2009.

Doreen is survived by her four children, Tom and Kathleen Kurdy of Lakeside, Mont., Linda and Clem Rosbarsky of Indio, Calif., Pamela McLeod of Hemet, Calif. and Kelly Kurdy of Citrus Heights, Calif. She has eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Her parents, one sister and six brothers preceded her in death.
