John David (‘Bill’) Ferguson, 84

John David Ferguson, father and grandfather, passed away on Sept. 21, 2018, at home in Post Falls, Idaho.

John was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Yonkers, N.Y.

He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17, and after two years transferred to the United States Air Force. He retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years as a tech sergeant in Lompoc, Calif., Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Upon his retirement, he and his wife Judith stayed in Lompoc where they raised two daughters. John was quick to go back to work and became the warehouse manager for Pacific Beverage Company in Santa Maria, Calif., where he worked for another 20 years.

After his “second” retirement, John and Judith traveled the country in a fifth-wheel before moving to Texas to be near their daughter, Ann. They lived in Texas for seven years before moving to Idaho in 2007 to be near their daughter, Maureen.

John was a member, for many years, of the Santa Barbara Trail Riders, a men’s horseback riding club in Santa Barbara County, Calif. With other members of the Santa Barbara Trail Riders he enjoyed riding high in the mountains above Santa Ynez and Santa Barbara upon the backs of his trusty steeds, Red and Magic. Figueroa Mountain was the best.

John was a member of the American Legion Post 143 in Post Falls, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3603 in Post Falls, the Loyal Order of Moose and The Masons for over 50 years. He was an avid cribbage player and held several cribbage championship titles.

John was preceded in death by his wife Judith. He is survived by his two daughters, Ann White of Huntsville, Texas and Maureen Ferguson Montgomery (Mike) of Athol, Idaho; four grandchildren, David, Randy, Te-Ata and Trey; and three great-grandchildren.
