Bernice Elaine Boe, 86

Bernice Boe, 86, of Post Falls, Idaho, went to be with the Lord on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born to Hubert “Hube” and Lydia (Heit) Fredericks on Nov. 29, 1931, in Hysham, Mont. She was the oldest of five children.

Bernice grew up in the Livingston, Mont., area. She met James “Jim” Boe of Big Timber, Mont., while working as a waitress in Livingston. They were married on April 17, 1949 in Big Timber.

Shortly after their third child was born, they moved to the Harrison Flats in Harrison, Idaho, where they farmed and ranched. They raised cattle and to this day the family still carries on the tradition of raising, butchering, cutting and wrapping their own beef. Bernice also worked as the administrative assistant for she and Jim’s insurance business for many years.

Bernice was a member of the Harrison Grange, the Pomona Grange, was a 4H Leader, and had just received her 50-year membership pin with the Sons of Norway. She attended the Rathdrum Bible Church after they moved to Post Falls, Idaho, in 1999. Mom cared for Dad as his Parkinson’s disease progressed until his passing on March 5, 2003.

Mom and Dad loved to travel. They ventured to many countries by air and sea. They also pulled their fifth-wheel trailer all over the United States with the Good Sam Club. They became “snowbirds” and spent many winters in Arizona. They never met a group of pinochle players they didn’t join, and after Jim died Mom became an avid Bunco player.

For the last three years, Bernice enjoyed living at Garden Plaza Assisted Living in Post Falls. She made many new friends, especially her tablemates in the dining room. Bible study, playing cards and group outings were among her favorite activities. The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care provided to her by the staff members.

Besides her husband and parents, Bernice was preceded in death by their oldest child, Stephen James Boe, and her four brothers, Melvin, Carl (Ike), Jack and Lester Fredericks. She is survived by daughter, Debbie and husband, Charlie Simpson of Post Falls; son, Alan and wife, Judy Boe of Moscow, Idaho; and daughter-in-law, Laura and husband, Larry Sanders of Rathdrum. Bernice also has eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include five sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Family was very important to Bernice and she loved spending time with all of her family. She maintained relationships with relatives near and far. She gave and received much love.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the Grange Hall in Harrison, Idaho, and also at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Lutheran Church in Big Timber, Mont. There is also an online memorial book at www.belltowerfuneralhome.com that you may visit.
