COLUMN: Belittles candidate Jordan

| May 30, 2018 1:00 AM

Chris Carlson’s May 18 attempt at a fair assessment of Idaho’s gubernatorial candidates slides so far right it is laughable. He belittles Paulette Jordan by calling her only a “symbol.” And perhaps she is: of honesty, hard work and grass roots politics. Obviously she is not part of the “Good Old Boys” establishment.

Carlson claims she is “exploiting” the fact that she is a Native American by seeking funds from other Indian tribes. And how does that compare with Republican candidates who get funds from the Koch brothers?

As Chris states the qualities of the two candidates, it is clear he is praising Little and demeaning Jordan. Brad Little, a WHITE, MALE, MILLIONAIRE, appears the quality candidate. Paulette Jordan is only a female Indian who raises horses. He also points out Paulette isn’t married, obviously a defect, but does she need a husband to serve tea? Lastly, almost laughably, he faults her for sending her boys to Gonzaga Prep instead of public school. She may have many reasons for that choice, but I call that being a very good and wise mother. She is caring for them and protecting them from the ugly, mean lies and R-rated crap to come. Does Catholic cause concern?

As a knee-jerk follow-up in a recent Press, letter writer Scott Dinger claims she is running for governor only because of a “self-serving ego.” And so, the nasty personal attacks begin. Perhaps these “GOPs” aren’t so sure she can’t win.
