BULLYING: It takes a village to stop it

| May 25, 2018 1:00 AM

Here we go again, another school shooting, more thoughts and prayers, then what? It seems in all of these cases of school shootings that somewhere along the line the school shooter was bullied. Bullying is a major problem in today’s society, especially with the internet. All through mankind’s history there have been bullies. Mankind’s DNA seems to contain the bullying gene.

The problem seems to be how do we stop kids from bullying others. It starts with all the adults: moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers and yes the highest office in the land. How can we expect our kids to stop bullying when the current resident of the White Office feels that the “Bully Pulpit” translates to “I can bully anyone and everyone 24/7.” Kids learn by watching the adults in their life. We as adults need to set an example for the kids, it’s part of the job of raising our kids and it does take a village. There are little eyes watching us all the time.

School shootings are way too common and there are multiple things out there that need to be addressed, bullying is just one. I applaud the First Ladies anti-bullying campaign, it would be really nice if her husband would get on board and stop bullying, as Harry Truman said “The buck stops here.”
