Grace Maxine Cherry-Blass, 88

May 16, 1930 - May 19, 2018

Maxine Blass, 88, of Post Falls, Idaho, went to heaven peacefully on May 19, 2018, at Schneidmiller Hospice House while surrounded by family. Maxine grew up in Rogerson, Idaho with her parents, Nellie Suddreth-Cherry and Dave Cherry; sisters, Delena and Wilma; and brothers, Melvin and Alton. Maxine met Arthur Chapman Blass II while both were in the Navy and married on March 28, 1953.

Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Blass II; sons, John and Geoffrey Blass; and her parents and siblings. Maxine is survived by her children, Arthur (Candy) Blass III, Melaney Blass, Rosemarie (Mitch) Esqueda and Anthony Blass; grandchildren, Angela, Sherry, Brian, Ezekiel and Zachary; great-grandchildren, James, Mark, Timmothy, Sharee, Stephen, Abigail, Gwendalyn, Malakei and Aidan; and great-great grandchild, Dahlia; along with numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her very much.

Maxine grew up on a farm where they hunted and grew and canned all their own food. After high school she worked for the telephone company and then joined the Waves and became one of the first female radio-men of her day. She worked for state hospitals in Ukiah and Sonoma, Calif. and at Soledad State Prison as head of the culinary department until retirement when she moved to northern Idaho.

Maxine’s passions were her family, friends, cooking, gardening, traveling, crossword puzzles, reading and sewing. She was an avid fisher woman and she loved her church, Real Life Ministries, where she made many friends.

She lived her name, Grace, every day of her life and was always ready to help anyone who needed her.

She will be greatly missed and appreciated by many.

Psalm 64 ...

Philippians 4:4

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again; rejoice.”

Philippians 1:19-21

“for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
