THANKS: For competition

| May 20, 2018 1:00 AM

I want to thank my primary opponent, Roger Garlock, for having the courage and willingness to put his name on the ballot and seek to represent the people of Idaho in the Legislature. The time, energy and personal sacrifice a candidate takes upon themselves and their family to run for office is no small order, and for that Mr. Garlock has my respect.

Obviously, no incumbent wants to have an opponent during an election. Life would certainly be easier and infinitely less stressful to run unopposed. However, I believe contested elections help remind incumbents of the diversity of opinions and positions of constituents and ultimately help develop better elected officials, as well as create a healthier democratic republic.

I would also like to thank those in our community who have sacrificed their time, energy and treasure to support my campaign. In this day and age most people are fairly jaded by the topic of politics and generally do not hold a favorable opinion of anyone with the “politician” title. I am truly humbled to have the support of dozens, if not hundreds, of people throughout the community.

My promise to the community is whether you voted for me or not, I will do my best to listen to your concerns and vigilant in fighting for what is best for our community and state.

PAUL AMADOR

Representative, District 4
