SHOOTING: A father's letter

| May 20, 2018 1:00 AM

Some emotions that we experience can only be best explained through the art medium of poetry.

I had lost hope

The day a gunman found you,

For you were my compass my flesh and blood,

But now I am lost as to what to do,

Your eyes in that moment,

Your embrace that I had treasured,

Was my lost gift now,

That I will forever long for and will be remembered,

My child my beloved,

How is it that you passed that day,

My heart has fractured over your departure,

In this atrocious tragedy I have lost my way,

Lost in the questions that now flood my mind,

I am lost now in the finding a future without you,

For you we’re my only child my beloved,

You were that which proved hope for me,

You were my hope now has departed,

I will once again embrace you,

As a father should his son every day,

I will behold you my beloved,

One day I will find my hope I pray.
