Cardinals romp to two wins to open NWAC tourney

SPOKANE — Kalyna Korok homered twice, including a sixth inning grand slam, to power top-seeded North Idaho College to a 12-1 win over eighth-seeded Mt. Hood in the second round of the NWAC softball Championships at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex on Saturday evening.

Madi Mott and Megan Carver also homered for NIC (47-3), which faces fourth-seeded Walla Walla (39-11) in the next round today at noon. Mott struck out six in the circle for NIC against Mt. Hood (27-15).

Earlier, Ashlyn Winn had three hits, including a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead the Cardinals past the Hawks in an opening round game. Winn also hit a two-run homer in the third inning for NIC.

Kayla Curtan and Megan Carver had two hits each for NIC in the win.
