Virginia Pederson, 81

Virginia “Ginny” Mae Faler Pederson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, died April 5, 2018, in her home. She was born on Feb. 8, 1937, in Omaha, Neb. Her parents were Edward Charles Faler and Ellen Mae Morris.

Virginia moved to Garden Grove, Calif., in 1942 and then moved to Westminster. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1954 and was named Miss Huntington Beach the same year. In 1956 she married James A. Hintz in Las Vegas. They moved to North Idaho in 1966 with their three children, Jim Jr., Jon and Joni.

When they arrived in North Idaho, they purchased the Hayden Lake Resort, which at the time was a small enclave of rental cabins, a store and gas pump at the east side of Hayden Lake. The store was known by lake dwellers for the penny candies and ice cream. Virginia raised the children and ran the resort for many years, eventually closing things down and going to work full time at the Hayden Lake Country Club. She retired from the HLCC after 28 years of dining room service and countless private parties. During the ’80s she managed the Avondale bar and kitchen for seven years.

In 1977, she married and gave birth to her fourth child, Jillian. By 1978, Virginia was a very busy single mother; raising Jillian, maintaining the Hayden Resort rentals and working full time. Later in life, after she left HLCC, she worked at Costco as a food distributor for 12 years. Eventually, she was employed by a wonderful family who truly made her feel very appreciated. She served as their caretaker, personal shopper and a cook for 10 years.

Virginia was such a generous woman. She was always willing to help, give and love others. Her nickname during the holidays was “Ginny Claus;” she literally shopped all year long for Christmas. Ginny was a very special soul who found great joy in serving others, even her grand-dogs!

Survivors include daughters, Joni Hintz, Jillian Rowley and son-in-law, Greg Rowley; grandchildren, Tyler and Miho Jarmer, Lindsey and Kris Chambers, Jacob and Korbyn Jarmer, Matthew Jarmer, Jessica, Kimberly and Juliene Hintz, Taylin and Marin Rowley; great-grandchildren, Ruby, Joey and Kasen Jarmer, Brendan and Owen Hintz and Evie, Caiden and Bradley Hintz; sisters, Martha Elizabeth Wilson, Helen Joy Isley and Charleen Kay Sorell; many cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are sons, James Jr. and Jon Hintz, and brothers, Edward, David and Charles.
