COPS: Our everyday heroes

| May 18, 2018 1:00 AM

I would like to say something: I know a lot of you would agree with me, but there are others who wouldn’t.

We talk a lot about our war heroes, as we should, but not about the heroes right here in town, our town and every town in America. I am talking about our law enforcement.

These people literally put their lives on the line every day for you and me. They are there to make the town safe for all of us. In our homes, business offices, restaurants or just walking down the street. They are not there to hassle any one or to give you a bad time. They are there to make the place safe. To keep the illegal drugs off the street to stop the muggings, the illegal drivers who jeopardize every one on the road and even pedestrians, to try to make people behave themselves and treat every one as you yourself would like to be treated.

We have lost 21,183 officers, men and women in the line of duty. That is one every 63 hours. The ones who fought to preserve our freedom came home and tried to forget what they went through, but the ones who fight here at home can’t go home and try to forget, because their war is never over. So the next time you see an officer, go up to him/her and say “Thank you for your service to our community.” Thank you.
