Shippy, a senior infielder from Lake City High, will compete in the Fayetteville (Ark.) Regional of the NCAA Division I tournament starting on Friday. Oklahoma State (38-20) will face Wichita State (30-21) at 11:30 a.m. on ESPNU. DePaul and host Arkansas will play in the other regional game. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Sutton, a senior first baseman from Coeur d’Alene High, was named to the District 8 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District baseball team, selected by CoSIDA. The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. A Business Administration Economics major with a cumulative 3.78 grade point average, Sutton is second on the team with a .340 batting average with 53 hits, including nine doubles and five home runs. He leads the Redhawks with 43 runs batted in. In order to be eligible, student-athletes must carry a 3.30 cumulative GPA, be in their second year at their institution and appear in at least 50 percent of their team’s competitions.

Gardom, a sophomore from Timberlake High, won the javelin at the Big Sky Championships in Moscow with a throw of 160-feet, 3-inches, moving into second in the school record books. She trails only Cassie Merkley (161-10 in 2010), and is currently ranked 22nd in the West Region. “I came into the meet with neither the experience nor the distances of the other girls, but I knew I had the heart,” Gardom said. “I knew I wasn’t going to get the podium if I was tense or stressed, so I loosened up, did my pre-throw dance, listened to the hype from my phenomenal coaches and teammates, smiled wide and just went all in.”

DeHaas, a 6-foot-1 senior infielder from Coeur d’Alene High, was named to the all-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference first-team, the conference announced. DeHaas hit .374 with 35 runs batted in and had four errors in 40 games and registered a .461 on-base percentage. Lock Haven finished 22-19.
