Violet ‘Vi’ M. Hague, 96

Violet ‘Vi’ M. Hague passed away at the age of 96 on May 13, 2018. The second oldest of six children, she was born to John Baptiste Bertrand and Mabel Ellen Snider, in Botha, Alberta, on April 15, 1922. She wed Bernard “Bernie” J. Hague in 1941 and they immigrated to the U.S. in 1951. Bernie passed away in 2008.

She is survived by four children, Tracy, Dan, Lorrie and Beverly; and had 12 grandchildren, Tim, Gary, Ken, Michael (deceased), Jamie, Kelly (deceased), Kevin, Derek, Tyler, Kalia, Cory and Michelle; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

After settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1956, Vi worked with her husband establishing their upholstery business. She later opened her own the successful Rattan & Wicker Works shop in Midtown.

She was an avid square dancer and was a founding member of the Coeurly Q’s Square Dance Club. A wonderful baker, Vi won more than 150 ribbons at the North Idaho Fair for baking and canning — including the grand prize for baking. She learned to golf in the 1970s and became a club champion at the Coeur d’Alene Golf Course. A true artist with needle and thread, she created everything from beautiful prom dresses to parade costumes.

And she loved to travel. Vi and her husband visited almost every state in the U.S. and the provinces in Canada. A highlight was a six-week trip to Asia, which included Okinawa, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

In recent years she appreciated the friendships made with residents and staff of Legends Park.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene. A reception and graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of North Idaho. To see Vi’s online memorial please visit www.englishfuneralchapel.com
