BANDON, Ore. — It took a extra hole, but North Idaho College’s women’s golf team capped off a strong Monday performance with the team title at the two-day Northwest Athletic Conference tournament hosted by Southwestern Oregon at Brandon Dunes.

The Cardinals shot a 243 team score and ended up tied with Spokane after regulation play, coach Russell Grove reported, prompting a three-person playoff with the lowest combined score winning. For NIC, Caitlyn Fisher bogeyed the hole, Madi Brown parred it, and Mikal Jerman made a 15-foot birdie putt to finish even, while Spokane’s trio was 2-over.

“Madi also played great for the tournament and shot 74-76 to win individual honors by 6 shots,” Grove added.

NIC’s Todd Henderson fired a 6-under 65 on Monday to claim medalist honors, winning by 5 shots over Southwest Oregon’s Kobie Lockwood. The hosts took the men’s team title, with a 594 total that was 8 shots better than the third-place Cardinals.

“The men had a 1-shot lead going into (Monday) but stumbled with some big numbers and ended up taking third,” Grove said. “The men’s third-place finish was good enough to clinch the regular season NWAC title.”

Both NIC golf teams conclude their 2017-18 golf season next weekend at the NWAC Championship at Apple Tree Golf Club in Yakima, Wash.
