Veta M. Malloy Beckwith Halfhide, 97

Veta M. Halfhide, 97, a longtime Kootenai County resident, died May 9, 2018, at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with her three children at her side.

She lived at Guardian Angels for over a year and developed strong friendships with nurses and staff with her pleasant nature. Before that, she lived more than five years at Brookdale at Coeur d’Alene, where she was a fixture at many of the facility’s activities.

She was born July 18, 1920, at Grangeville, Idaho, to Truman and Ada Schenck. She married Charles T. Malloy in 1940, and the couple had five children. The family lived many years in Kellogg and Osburn, Idaho, and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1965.

Veta began her long career as an “Avon Lady” in Coeur d’Alene, becoming one of the top sales representatives and earning numerous sales awards.

Survivors include daughter, Marian (Hugh) Spencer of Moses Lake, Wash.; Dorothy (Mike) Sheahan of Spokane Valley, Wash.; Chuck (Vicki) Malloy of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were Charles T. Malloy; Alford Beckwith; Robert Halfhide; daughter, Sharlee Malloy; son, Mike Malloy; and grandson, Merritt Ashley.

There were no services, and the family asks for appreciation for those at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, who graciously cared for Mom’s needs during the final stages of her life.
