BROOKS: No spin cycle

| May 11, 2018 1:00 AM

Recently, I read an article by James O’Keefe that discussed the power of propaganda. Some very interesting facts were pointed out that apply to our upcoming Primary Election and the fight for the two county commissioner seats. This election could definitely change Kootenai County’s future.

There is a banner that was seen by Mr. O’Keefe that stated, “I need to know the truth, so that we can bend the truth.” This seems to be the philosophy Brent Regan and his followers use trying to get their chosen candidates elected, among them Marc Eberlein for District 1 County Commissioner.

Statements being made about Eberlein’s past decisions as county commissioner are inaccurate and present an untruthful view of this candidate. Eberlein voted against the Transit Center while admitting vocally “It’s a great return on investment.” He eschewed taking federal money for the Transit Center, but has no issue accepting federal funds for the airport (Brent Regan’s love). His recent ads state he is “The only Commissioner that voted AGAINST RAISING your property taxes,” yet in 2017, he voted for a 3 percent tax increase. It’s all in the record.

Voters deserve honesty, not spin. Bill Brooks is an honest and giving individual who shares his knowledge and time voluntarily each week in the Coeur d’Alene Press with “The Consumer Guy” columns. He is a real plus to helping our community and will not fall prey to the extremist views and decisions (such as not requiring building codes) held by Mr. Eberlein.

Eberlein once told me, “I want to be remembered as a Statesman, not a Politician.” Well, which category do you think fits this candidate?
