Vanessa Shippy

Oklahoma State softball

Shippy, a senior infielder from Lake City High, was named the 2018 Big 12 Conferece Player fo the Year, the league office announced. Shippy also received first-team All-Big 12 honors and was joined by five of her teammates on the 2018 All-Big 12 teams. It is her second player of the year honor, previously winning the honor in 2016. She is just the third player in league history to be named player of the year on multiple occasions, joining Oklahoma’s Amber Flores (2009, 2010) and Shelby Pendley (2013, 2015). Shippy finished the regular season as the Big 12’s leader in on-base percentage (.613), runs scored (65) and walks (54). She was one point away from leading the league in batting average, as her .460 mark trails only Baylor’s Kyla Walker, who hit .461. All four of her marks place her among the top-10 competitors nationally, with her on-base percentage and walks total topping all “Power Five” players in the country.

Kris Jackson

Corban College baseball

Jackson, a senior pitcher from Lakeland High, was named to the NAIA All-West team. Jackson went 9-3 on the season with a 2.53 earned run average, throwing a team-high 92 1/3 innings. He had four compete games, including a shutout while allowing a opponents’ batting average of .229.

Derek Bayley

Washington State golf

Bayley, a senior from Lakeland High in Rathdrum, broke the school career scoring record with an average of 73.04 in over 140 tournament rounds. The total includes 31 rounds in the 60’s and twice he shot a career-low of 65.

Rikki McCaw

Idaho track and field

McCaw won the 200-meter dash in the Tom Cage Classic in Missoula on Friday, finishing in a personal-best 22.24 seconds. The time moves McCaw up in the Big Sky Conference rankings, where he is now inside the top-25. McCaw finished second in the 100 in 11.08 seconds.

Parker Walton

Montana State track and field

Walton, a freshman from Post Falls High, won the 400-meter dash in 49.60 seconds at the Tom Cage Classic in Missoula on Friday. Walton finished second to McCaw in the 200 in 22.38.

Harrison Davies

Milwaukee School of Engineering lacrosse

Davies, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene High, was named honorable mention to the All-Midwest Lacrosse Conference, the conference announced on May 4. Davies, a midfielder, tallied 30 points on 23 goals and seven assists in 14 games. He grabbed 23 ground balls and forced 13 turnovers.
