Package 'enjoys' tour of the Northwest
Stephanie Smith’s tale of a package’s most excellent adventure is one for the record books. After placing the order her package left Phoenix on April 27, first stopping in Portland. Before it arrived on the Smith’s Hayden doorstep on May 2 it took the scenic route through five states.
“My package from Macy’s is well-traveled. After leaving Portland, it stopped in Tualatin but decided it missed Portland so back it went where it spent a couple days chillaxin before heading to Hermiston (Ore.). After a few hours it took off to Spokane which it must not have liked, spending only 39 minutes there. Off to Missoula it went, passing the USPS hub in Coeur d’Alene after just 31 minutes. It really wanted to see Montana, I guess. Missoula was only entertaining for a couple hours so off to Helena it went where it rested quickly overnight. It hadn’t spent enough time in Missoula so it traveled back for minutes? Seconds? We may never know but off it went through Idaho passing Coeur d’Alene to visit Spokane once again where it spent a good portion of the day. It took off to go back to Idaho, taking 31 short minutes, where it hung out in the truck before being transferred to the post office where it wallowed in a USPS bin for a day before my postal carrier left it by my front door.”
The irony? The package contained a Patricia Nash handbag, a brand whose designs are inspired by travel!

Twice a year, in May and September, the Pleasantview Community Association holds a public breakfast at the historic Pleasantview School to help fund restoration projects. The school, opened in 1910, is a registered historical site in Idaho as well as on the National Historical Registry.
As always, the Cowboy Breakfast at the old Pleasantview School attracts interesting people with wonderful stories. In addition to the homemade biscuits and jams, tours of the building are one of the fun things about the breakfast, too. There’s a bell tower with a bell for the ringing, an antique wood stove and many artifacts from the days the building welcomed school children to class.
There’s a framed and yellowed calligraphy on the wall of the school titled Honor Roll. It appears to be an enlistment registry, likely of one-time Pleasantview School students during World War I, in 1917 and 1918.
Experiencing the Cowboy Breakfast and the historic school, 18724 W. Riverview Drive, is a wonderful outing for families and anyone interested in local history. The event is Saturday, 8-11 a.m., $8 per person, family pricing available.

The Coeur d’Alene Eagles are also treating mothers to breakfast from 9-11 a.m., 209 E. Sherman Avenue.
