Leona Mary Daly, 87

Leona Mary Daly passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 7, 2018. She gained her angel wings so she could soar with the eagles.

Leona was born Feb. 24, 1931, to William Chester Hodges and Marie Louise Primeau, in River Rouge, Mich. She was the only girl among six brothers. Leona married the love of her life, Joseph Fenton Daly, on May 17, 1952. They were blessed with nine children.

In 1965 they decided to move their family away from the rat race of Detroit, Mich., to God’s Country in Northern Idaho. He took a job with the Idaho State Patrol and she was hired by the Idaho State Highway Department in Coeur d’Alene. After their children had left the nest they relocated to Spokane, Wash., where she worked for the Spokane County Health Department. She retired in 2007 and began her golden years, travelling and spending time with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by children, Paul (Maryann), Veronica (Rick), Denise (Jim), Mary Therese; daughter-in-law, Jackie; Matthew (Camille), Andrew (Jody), Meghan (Chris) and Terrance (Swe); 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, William Hodges, Joseph Hodges and Robert Hodges; her beloved critters, Merle, Monty and Ziegfried.

Leona is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son Sean; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Gage; grandchildren, Dale and Breanna; parents, Chet and Marie Hodges; brothers, James, Edward and Patrick; sister-in-law, Gladys and her most precious Coco. Her family would like to thank the nursing staff on 2 North CICU at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, in Spokane, Wash. The Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2320 N. Cedar St., Spokane, with a reception to follow.
