Isaac Gerrit Engell, 23

Isaac Gerrit Engell went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 21, 2018, while doing something he loved in a place he loved to be, with people he loved to be with. He was an adventurer and a lover of life. He loved his family, his many, many friends, and he especially had a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and desired to serve Him with all his heart. People always noticed Isaac’s joyful outlook on life and said his smile was “infectious”

Isaac lived a very purposeful life. He desired to see the power of God working in and through him, and wanted to be remembered as a man who was always investing in others. Isaac’s smile could light up a room and he was good at making people laugh. He was a good listener and a loyal friend.

Isaac grew up on Dunn Mountain, near Colville, Wash. He was born at home on Aug. 8, 1994, to David and Laurie Engell, and was fifth of seven children. He was homeschooled and worked often with his dad and brothers in their excavation business. He enjoyed music, woodworking, basketball, volleyball, hiking, biking, skiing, swimming and exploring the beauty and wonders of God’s creation.

He learned to play harmonica at a young age and was involved with his family band. Later, he learned guitar and to sing lead and harmonies with his brothers. The family often performed for area nursing homes and community events and spent several years touring the Southwest during the winter months performing for the snowbirds. After graduation he and his two brothers, Luke and Caleb, formed the Dunn Mountain Boys band, made a CD and toured the country. They made many great memories together, traveling all the way to Washington D.C. and back.

Isaac and two of his brothers worked for two years together in the woods for Hancock Forest Management. He and his brother Caleb recently built a tiny house in Sisters, Ore., that the brothers planned to sell as an investment. For the past few years Isaac lived in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and made many good friends there. He was very ambitious and hardworking. He had started a window washing and gutter cleaning business in Coeur d’Alene, and was excited for the spring season to start so he could get back to it.

Isaac loved and respected his family immensely. He is survived by his parents, David and Laurie (Sommer) Engell; his brother, Andrew (Celeste) and their four children, David, Matthew, Grace and Mercy; his sister, Aimee (Jonathan) Keulen and their five children, Justus, Annie, Kaitryn, Patrick and Knox; his brother, Luke (Janna) and their daughter, Shellia; his brother, Caleb (Stephanie) and their children, Ella-May and Lochlan; his sister, Aleah; brother, Adam; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Isaac was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. We who have the hope of heaven and the knowledge of Jesus will rejoice to see him again one day. A recent entry in Isaac’s journal states “My treasure is in heaven!”

One of his favorite Bible verses was “Be Thou exalted O God above the heavens: let Thy glory be above all the earth” Ps. 57:11

All are welcome to attend a memorial service for Isaac at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Lake City Community Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, in Coeur d’Alene, with a meal following. A local burial was held in Addy, Wash.
