Coeur d’Alene edged Post Falls by two strokes to win the boys Lakeland Invitational on Friday at Twin Lakes Village.

Jackson Davenport was second overall with a 75 for the Vikings, who shot 325. Cameron Flores of Post Falls was medalist with a 74. The Trojans shot 327.

“That 325 is not a very good tournament score,” Coeur d’Alene coach Bryan Duncan said. “But it (Twin Lakes Village) is tight; it’s a very target golf course. It kicked a lot of kids’ rear ends. I tip my cap to Cameron Flores.”

Junior Sam Johnson of Coeur d’Alene aced the 15th hole at Twin Lakes Village, playing around 150 yards, with a 9-iron. It was his first career ace.

Duncan said his Viking junior varsity team shot 358, which would have placed it fifth in the varsity tourney.

In the girls tournament at The Links, Post Falls and Lakeland tied for third at 376. Lewiston won with a 365.

Renee Mosby of Post Falls finished second overall with a personal-best 83.

Trojan teammate Hannah Larson eagled the par-6 ninth hole at The Links — which plays at 600-plus yards from the back three tees — with a driver, 3-wood, and approach shot from 140 yards out and a 4-foot putt.

Coeur d’Alene, with two players injured, was unable to field a full team. However, Duncan said he’s optimistic the Vikings will be at full strength for the 5A Region 1 tournament on Monday.

All state-qualifying tournaments are on Monday, with the 5As in Lewiston, the 4As at the Idaho Club in Sandpoint, the 3As at Twin Lakes Village and the 2As at The Links.

Sandpoint 7-7

Lakeland 6-10

SANDPOINT — Going into the day, Lakeland knew it was going to be the No. 3 seed for next week’s 4A Region 1 tournament.

Its opponent, Sandpoint, needed one win from the 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader to earn the No. 1 seed. And the Bulldogs (10-5, 5-3 4A IEL) did just that in the opener, scoring seven runs in the third inning en route to a 7-6 win over the Hawks in the opener at Memorial Field.

Lakeland (11-13, 2-6 4A IEL) won the nightcap 10-7 in nine innings.

No. 2 Moscow and No. 3 Lakeland will play a loser-out game to start the 4A Region 1 baseball tournament on Monday at 3 p.m. at War Memorial Field in Sandpoint, with the winner advancing to face No. 1 seed Sandpoint at 5 p.m. in the first game of a best-of-three series, with the winner advancing to state. The second game will be held on Wednesday at the highest seed, with a third game on Friday, if necessary.

Tristan Clift scored three runs and stole four bases in the opener for Lakeland, which made things interesting in the seventh inning before a rally ended with a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
