Cardinals clinch NWAC East title with sweep

PENDLETON, Ore. — Kalyna Korok hit a first-inning grand slam, her 17th home run of the season, as North Idaho College powered past Blue Mountain 14-0 in the first game of a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday.

Megan Carver hit a three-run homer in the third inning for NIC, which held Blue Mountain three hits in the opener, and clinched the East Division title and a berth to the conference tournament starting May 18 at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.

In the nightcap, Kayla Curtan, Kayla Anderson and Jori Kerr had three RBIs each as the Cardinals earned the sweep, beating the Timberwolves 17-1.

NIC (41-3, 26-2 NWAC) travels to face Treasure Valley in a doubleheader today in Ontario, Ore., starting at 11 a.m.

Blue Mountain is 1-37, 1-27.
