Cd'A wins on senior day

COEUR d’ALENE — Brett Keesee, out most of the season with an arm injury, gutted out two innings as one of 10 Vikings honored on senior day.

Coeur d’Alene beat Bonners Ferry 14-6 on Thursday at Ted Page Field. The Badgers filled the spot on the schedule when Moscow cancelled on Wednesday.

“We had good at-bats, and played hard for our seniors,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said.

Coeur d’Alene (13-9) plays at Post Falls on Monday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.

RATHDRUM — Max Baker hit a solo home run in the first inning, Logan Siegford and Garrett Moen had two RBIs each and the Hawks beat the Tigers at Gorton Field.

“We had some good at-bats,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “Max’s home run really amped up the players and got us back in the game after Timberlake took an early lead. Garrett and Logan had good days at the plate as well.”

Dylan Bradbury set a single-season school record with his 16th double to give Lakeland the lead in the first inning.

Louis Powell scored three runs and Logan McDonald had three hits for Timberlake (12-6), which opens the 3A District 1 tournament on Tuesday against Kellogg at Bonners Ferry.

Lakeland (10-10) opens the 4A Region 1 tournament on Monday.

KELLOGG — Hayden Villa had two hits and two RBIs and Derek Larson struck out 11 to lead the Lumberjacks past the Wildcats in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Teeters Field.

Shaun Anderson had three hits and an RBI in the nightcap to earn the sweep for St. Maries (9-5), which faces Prairie today at Airport Park in Lewiston.

Kellogg is 4-13.

COEUR d’ALENE — Betty Comack pitched a two-hitter and hit a three-run double in the first inning as the 5A Vikings beat the 3A Tigers in the regular-season finale for both teams at Larry Schwenke Field.

Hailey Lyons hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for Coeur d’Alene (7-16). Rebekah West hit a two-run single in the fifth, and Madi Fernimen ended the game on the 10-run rule with a two-run double later in the fifth.

Becca Malloy singled in Shelby Starr in the first for the lone run for Timberlake (11-3).

Timberlake returns to action Tuesday at the 3A District 1 tournament at Bonners Ferry. The Tigers open the tourney vs. Priest River at 2 p.m.

Next up for Coeur d’Alene is the 5A Region 1 tournament on Tuesday. The Vikings open vs. Lewiston at 2 p.m. at Ramsey Park. The winner plays the Lake City-Post Falls winner at 4 p.m. at Lake City; the loser faces the Lake City-Post Falls loser at 4 at Ramsey Park.

COEUR d’ALENE — Emma Gray hit a three-run homer and Haley Loffer, one of three seniors honored on senior day, added a two-run single as the Timberwolves beat the visiting Bulldogs.

Olivia Zufelt hit a solo homer for Lake City (18-4). McKenzie Wilson struck out seven and pitched a four-hit shutout for the Timberwolves.

“Kenzie threw the ball extremely well today, and she kept Sandpoint off balance,” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “It was nice to see our bats come alive and work to hit situationally today with our approaches at the plate.”

Bri Baldree had two hits for Sandpoint (7-9).

Lake City is the No. 1 seed for next week’s 5A Region 1 tournament. Lake City will host No. 4 Post Falls at 2 p.m., while No. 2 Lewiston plays No. 3 Coeur d’Alene at Ramsey Park. Winners play at 4 p.m. at Lake City for the regional title and a berth to state; losers play at 4 at Ramsey Park in a loser-out game.

RATHDRUM — The host Hawks rallied from an 8-0 deficit in the first inning of the second game, and beat the Bantams on a walkoff for the nonleague sweep.

Alaina Pruitt, up from the junior varsity to play third base, led off the seventh with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Haley Shields’ sacrifice fly. Pruitt finished 3 for 4, drove in a run and scored two.

Abbey Leon and Mia O’Hara each homered for Lakeland (10-13), and Riley Rivera went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs.

In the first game, Alicia Edelblute hit a grand slam in the fifth inning — her first homer of the season — for Lakeland. She finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Mikayla Olson was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Taylor Woolley doubled and tripled, Hailey Shields went 3 for 3 and Riley Rivera hit a two-run double to end the game on the 10-run rule.

“Overall I’m just proud of my team for sticking together and playing well as a team,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. “When we pull together, things just turn out well for us.”

Lakeland returns to action at the 4A Region 1 tournament at Rathdrum, playing at 5 p.m. vs. the winner of the 3 p.m. game between Sandpoint and Moscow.

ST. MARIES — Devyn Wilson struck out 12 and went 4 for 5 with three runs scored as the 2A Lumberjacks remained unbeaten with the nonleague victory over the 3A Wildcats.

Amber Rose Walrod went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored for St. Maries (12-0). Kaylee Auer doubled and tripled and went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs, and Dakotah Wilks was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs.

Rylee Riekena went 3 for 4 and scored a run for Kellogg.

St. Maries concludes the regular season vs. Prairie today at 4 at Airport Park in Lewiston.

SANDPOINT — Charlie Johnson and Tyler McNamee scored a three-set win at No. 1 boys doubles, and the Bulldog girls swept the singles, leading Sandpoint to a 8-4 win over Lakeland in a 4A Inland Empire League tennis dual Thursday at Travers Park and Lakeview Courts.
