James Burton Willcut, 76

James “Jim” Burton Willcut, 76, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully at the Schneidmiller Hospice House surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife, Twila Willcut, on April 22, 2018.

Jim was born on April 26, 1941, in Moorhead, Minn., to John and Barbara Willcut. Jim was the oldest of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dennis “Mike” and Roger “Hippo” Willcut. Jim is survived by his sisters, Mary “Trixie” Jensen, Sharon Burns, Barbara “Bitty” Crowell and brothers, Tim “Dubby” and John “Johnny.”

Jim was a much-loved son, brother, father, husband, grandpa, uncle and friend. His legacy lives on in his sons, Brian (Danielle) Willcut of Maple Valley, Wash., Jeff (Sandy) Willcut of Lake Tapps, Wash., and daughter, Alicia (Tony) Mills of Coeur d’Alene. Jim was promoted from a dad to a grandfather (“Papa” to his grandkids) 29 years ago. His grandchildren are Kaila Spencer, Halie Spencer, Winter Spencer, Ashley Willcut and Ian Willcut. Jim was equally proud of his two great-grandchildren, Charlie King Young and Daisy Marie Willcut.

Jim grew up on a small farm in Minnesota and attended Monroe High School in Washington state. Jim served in Korea and was a proud member of the U.S. Army. After his military service, he worked in the life insurance, banking, real estate and lending industries.

Jim and Twila met in 1977 and married in 1980. They have been residing in the Coeur d’Alene area ever since.

Jim was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a tremendous friend and confidant to many in the region. Jim owned and managed a successful business in Hayden for many years and his prowess in financial planning, lending, asset management and real estate were legendary.

When Jim was younger he enjoyed skydiving; and later in life — when he wasn’t working — he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and all things outdoors.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Schneidmiller Hospice House, who were so wonderful to Jim and his family when they were needed the most.

Service for Jim will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. Pius X Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene, and a celebration of life will be held immediately after at Sargents Restaurant and Lounge, 9021 N. Government Way, Hayden, Idaho.
