Richard George Mills

Feb. 14, 1951 – April 24, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard George Mills announces his passing on April 24, 2018, at his home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Richard was born Feb. 14, 1951, in San Francisco, Calif. He was raised and attended school in Corte Madera, Calif. He graduated from Redwood High School in 1970, where he took much pride in being the team manager for the football, wrestling and track team. Richard attended College of Marin and graduated from California State University at Long Beach, where he earned a B.A. in history. He worked at Goodwill Industries in Marin County, Calif., for more than 30 years and was forced into retirement after being hit by a car in 2007. In 2010 he moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to be closer to family.

Richard was a movie buff; he loved going to the movies and had a large movie collection. He participated in Civil War reenactments for several years. He was an avid San Francisco Giants fan and followed the 49ers.

While living in California, Richard was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Larkspur. After his move to Coeur d’Alene, he became a part of the Cornerstone Baptist Church and loved singing in the choir.

Richard is survived by his mother, Leila Haugen of Coeur d’Alene; sister, Karen Oss of Coeur d’Alene; brother, Ray Haugen of Post Falls, Idaho; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Michelle Mills of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mike and Roseanna Haugen of Topeka, Kan.; along with four nephews, two nieces, three grandnephews and two grandnieces.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 3983 W. Prairie Ave., Hayden, Idaho. Open to all who want to come. Bell Tower Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Rich left his heart in San Francisco: “I miss my friends from California and the ocean. But it is good to be near my family and the mountains. Winter is nice if I don’t have to shovel snow.”
